Dr. Michael Kuczynski was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Pediatric Musculoskeletal Imaging Lab from April 2024 to February 2026. Michael obtained his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Calgary in 2024 and his thesis focused on characterizing the relationship between TMC joint structure and function in osteoarthritis using high-resolution and 4D CT imaging. As a member of the Pediatric MSK Imaging Lab, Michael’s research explored 1) the use of ultrasound and a motion capture system to measure bone morphology in children, 2) improved segmentation of carpal bones from HR-pQCT using adaptive local thresholding, and 3) longitudinal assessment of carpal bone erosions in juvenile idiopathic arthritis using HR-pQCT and ultrasound. Outside the lab, Michael enjoys trail running, gardening, and spending time with his family.
